Stop making me feel old, Oh Body O' Mine!

 photo 670px-Remove-Scratches-from-Glass-Step-9_zps29e48c11.jpg
I have had glasses since I was 15.  I wore them only in classes at that point, because being one of the tallest people in the class meant you sat in the back.  And I couldn't see too well from the back.  The rest of the time, I didn't need em.  My left eye is pretty much perfect, but  my right eye is the wonky one, being about +2.0 or so.

When I started internship as a young doctor, I started wearing my glasses just about ALL the time. Maybe it was the long hours and tired eyes, or just age, but I felt like I needed them more and more.

For many years now, my glasses are the first thing I reach for when I get up.  Even though I can get around without any problems, with my left eye compensating for the right one, it is way better when you can see properly out of BOTH eyes.

In the last couple of years, my eyes have started going old-age on me, and now if I have to read anything close up, or take pictures or dial a number, I have to take my glasses OFF, or peer over them, or put them up on my head.

And it is SUPER ANNOYING! Bleh.

Happy Deepavali!

To my dear friends in Malaysia, what would I do if I didn't have Facebook to help me keep up with what's going on back home?! :)

Fireworks Party

A week ago, Maddge invited us over to her house to watch the ACU Homecoming Fireworks display.  For the past few years now, I have heard the distant pop! pop! popping! of the fireworks going off while putting the little boy to bed, and watched bits and pieces from afar.

This year, we had front row seats!  The field where they shoot the fireworks from is basically right in front of er, the back of Madge's house.

The kids had plenty of space to romp while waiting for the show, and one of the ladies had brought "Twirly Whirly Flyers"

I was so glad there were a couple of other little kids there, and so Jaxon had fun playing with shadows and dancing,

and of course, there was ICE CREAM too :)

West Texas Fair and Rodeo 2014

Good Grief, this is REALLY late.  The West Texas Fair and Rodeo was early LAST month, and after posting the parade, I have been really tardy about putting up the rest of it, but here goes...

Our first stop was right at the entrance, where they were recruiting little kids to join in the "Pedal Tractor Pull" event.  The little boy was enthusiastic about taking part, even though he hadn't been able to practice cycling as much as we would have liked.  He did well, and was super stoked when he received a ribbon for participating. His very first fair ribbon!

The petting zoo was crowded as usual, but the little boy got to get up close and personal with a few of them llamas and donkeehs :)

We walked down the midway ( a word I have learned since arriving in the United States ), and took in the sights, sounds, smells and people.  It is always quite a sight.  The colors, the lights and the music are always a delight.

We bumped into Stephanie and her brood there, and Jaxon wanted to ride with Jet on well, one of the rides.  We then went on the carousel and a couple of other less crazy ones which were more to the little boy's liking.

There were fake bulls and real ones with unimaginably huge horns

We went back the next morning, and packed a lunch to have there.

We went strolling through the buildings to see what he had missed the night before.

Once again this year, Mamo won a bunch of ribbons - many of them for first place! Gooooo Mamo!
Being a person who draws and draws and draws, you were quite er, drawn to the entries by the littler kids :)

And yes, everything is bigger in Texas. :)

Then we got into the Ag building and they knew how to appeal to the younger audiences, for sure.  I thought that was pretty sneaky to have an abundance of touch screens and interactive games and stations, LOL, but hey, the little boy learnt quite a few things that way.

Jaxon and I had learnt about whittling from a few books that we had used in the FIAR series/system, and so it was interesting to see some of the older men demo'ing some whittling at the fair.

There was also a cooking demo, but we didn't stick around for that.

We were kinda hungry by then, and went in search of Fair Food.

No, we did not have FRIED ALLIGATOR ON A STICK! We settled for a funnel cake instead. :)

See ya next year!

Prickly Pears

We took a little excursion today, to pick Prickly Pears.  We had already "juiced" a batch a couple of days ago, and went in search of more.

Last year, we had enough to make several gallons of juice, and Prickly Pear jelly as well. Needless to say, even though we had leather gloves on, the hubs and I got quite a few pricks.

On the way home, though, there was this amazing sunset, that made it seem the entire horizon was ablaze. :)

Dittos for Kiddos

That time of year has come and gone once again..

And did I spend more than I make? Well, YEAH, even if it were only by a little bit. It's kinda liberating to "get rid of" stuff that don't fit/are not played with anymore, and help it find another home somewhere else.  AND get some stuff that DO fit, at ridiculously low prices, even if they ARE pre-owned.
